TAO TE CHING [ LaoTzu 4th BC ] 

Tao = The Way
Te = Virtue, Integrity

Ching = classic
Chapter 1: The tao that can be told is not the eternal tao. TAO is NAMELESS. one can not know Tao, But 

one can BE]
Ch. 2: When people see things as beautiful, other things become ugly. When people see some things as 

good, other things become bad. Good n Bad create each other. [Contrast create each other.]
Ch. 3: Practice not doing [MEDITATE] and everything will fall into place.

Ch. 4: The tao is like a well: used, but never used up. It is like the ETERNAL VOID: filled with INFINITE 

Ch. 5: The Tao doesn't take sides, it gives birth to both good and evil. LIVE IN the CENTER.
Ch. 6: It is always present within you, you can use it any way you want.
Ch. 7: The tao is infinite, eternal. It was never born; thus, it can never die. It has no desires for itself; 

thus it is present for all beings.
Ch. 8: When you are content to BE SIMPLY YOURSELF and don't compare or compete, everybody will 

respect you.
Ch. 9: Do your work, then step back. The only path to serenity.

Ch. 10: Giving birth and nourishing, having without possessing, acting with no expectations, leading and 
not trying to control. This is the supreme virtue.

Ch. 11: We shape the clay into a pot, but it is the emptiness inside that holds whatever we want. We 
work with being, but non-being is what we use.

Ch. 12: Colors blind the eye. Sound deafens the ear. Flavors numb the taste. Thoughts weaken the mind. 
Desires wither the heart. The master observes the world, but trusts his inner vision.

Ch. 13: Success is as dangerous as failure. Hope is as hollow as fear See the world as your self. Have 
faith in the way things are.

Ch. 14: Look, and it can't be seen. Listen, and it can't be heard. Reach, and it can't be
grasped. Justrealize where you come from: this is the essence of wisdom.

Ch. 15: Not seeking, not expecting, she is present, and can welcome all things.
Ch. 16: Immersed in the wonder of the Tao, you can deal with whatever life brings you, and when death 

comes, you are ready.
Ch. 17: When the Master governs, the people are hardly aware that he exists. If you don't trust the 

people, you make them untrustworthy. [Live invisible/ Bring yourself in least wordly light]
Ch. 18: When the great Tao is forgotten, goodness and piety appear. When the country falls into chaos, 

patriotism born.
Ch. 19: Just stay at the center of the circle and let all things take their course.

Ch. 20: Stop thinking, and end your problems.

Ch. 21: The Tao is ungraspable. The Tao is dark and unfathomable. Since before time and space were, 
the Tao is. [One can't understand. ONE CAN BE.]

Ch. 22: When the ancient Masters said, "If you want to be given everything, give everything up,"
Only in being lived by the Tao can you BE TRULY YOURSELF.

Master by staying in Tao, SETS EXAMPLE. because he has nothing to prove, so People can trust his 
Ch. 23: Open yourself to the Tao, then trust your natural responses; and everything will fall into place. 

Ch. 24: If you want to accord with the Tao, just DO your job, then LET GO.
Ch. 25: There was something formless and perfect before the universe was born.The universe follows the 

Tao. The Tao follows only itself.
Ch. 26: If you let restlessness move you, you lose touch with who you are.

Ch. 27: A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent upon arriving. A good artist lets hisintuition 
lead him wherever it wants. A good scientist has freed himself of concepts and keeps his mind open

to what is.
Ch. 28: If you receive the world, the Tao will never leave you. If you are a pattern for the world, the Tao 

will be strong inside you. If you accept the world, the Tao will be luminous inside you. [have
